Reel Wisdom

I love going to the movies. The treats (Raisinets, popcorn, and a huge Coke). The pre-movie trivia. The previews. And, of course, the movie itself. It was all amplified by my stint as a professional ticket seller and popcorn popper at my local movie theatre in high school. I think I saw every single movie that came out during those three years.

In honor of the upcoming Oscars (and my over-all love of movies), today's Trendy Tuesday challenge is to share a favorite quote from a movie.

Leave your quote in the comments for a chance at a RAK.

Mine is from 'Riding in Cars with Boys' - and I always think of it when I try to journal or scrap feelings about my kids -
"I think that sometimes we love people so much that we have to be numb to it, because if we actually felt how much we really loved them it would kill us."
Can't wait to see others favorites too!

I am so not a movie buff, so I picked a quote from my favorite movie, The Wedding Singer:

"Remember, alcohol equals puke equals smelly mess equals nobody likes you."

Mine is from "City of Angels" Seth: I would rather have had one breath of her hair, one kiss from her mouth, one touch of her hand, than eternity without it. One.

A very heavy movie with some life lessons learned..."American History X"... too graphic and heavy for most, but has my FAV actor, Ed Nortan. Danny writes this in his paper he is about to turn in right before he is murdered in school.. a quote within a quote...:
"So I guess this is where I tell you what I learned - my conclusion, right? Well, my conclusion is: Hate is baggage. Life's too short to be pissed off all the time. It's just not worth it. Derek says it's always good to end a paper with a quote. He says someone else has already said it best. So if you can't top it, steal from them and go out strong. So I picked a guy I thought you'd like. 'We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.'"

I received a copy of your post because your title matches the name of my blog - Reel Life Wisdom. I hope you don't mind me adding a favorite movie quote:

"It's not who you are underneath. It's what you do that defines you."
Batman begins (2005) - Rachel Dawes (Katie Holmes)

The Princess Bride: my favorite movie, it has too many good lines to choose from. But I always seem to come back to Prince Humperdinck’s response when my husband asks me what I am so busy with.
“Tyrone, you know how much I love watching you work, but I've got my country's 500th anniversary to plan, my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder and Guilder to frame for it; I'm swamped.”

"If I ever go looking for my heart's desire again I won't look any further than my own back yard, because if it isn't there I never really lost it to begin with."

I was going to say the same quote as Kerry, from City of Angels but here is another favorite.

From Hope Floats.

Childhood is what you spend the rest of your life trying to overcome, that's what momma always says. Beginnings are scary, endings are usually sad, but it's the middle that counts the most....and you need to remember that when you find yourself at the beginning. Just give hope a chance to float up.......and it will too.

From the movie Fools Rush In (w/ Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek -
"You are everything I never knew I always wanted."

This was too hard to narrow down to just one that I liked best so I picked randomly!

I finally picked mine: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." :D

Being an incurable romantic i was torn between this from Casablanca

Humphrey Bogart (Rick): Here's looking at you, kid.

and Scarlett O'Hara
Tara! Home. I'll go home. And I'll think of some way to get him back. After all... tomorrow is another day.

"it's easier to be believe the bad stuff" Pretty Woman when they are laying in bed and talking... and so true.

This is my fav from When Harry Met Sally...all those little things that we most often don't tell the people that we love!

Harry Burns: "I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."

Cheers,
Colleen
