Picturing Faith

Okay. I'll admit it. I'm really struggling this week. I totally appreciate Angie's blend of seriousness and comic relief yesterday. Every post I type feels preachy or nosy, and today's photo post required a telephone pow-wow with Ang for support and brainstorming. I guess I should take the discomfort as a sign that this--faith--is an area where my life is not quite in balance.

Without further ado, I bring you the faith photo challenge.

Technically speaking, faith is a noun. Capture faith with a photo of a person, place, or thing.

To inspire you, I chose to do all three.

Person: My grandfather.
My grandpa makes me question the line between habit and faithfulness. There are many things my grandfather is faithful to, and since the death of my grandmother a little over three years ago, that faith has become much more transparent. He goes to church almost every day. He often asks that mass be hosted in honor of my grandma. He is also faithful about visiting my grandmother's grave nearly every day.Place: St. Paul's Cathedral, London
I was in London about five years ago. One of the very first things I did was attend a Sunday mass at St. Paul's Cathedral. I've toured tons of churches and cathedrals--it's sort of my touristy addiction--but I've never had an experience as powerful as actually attending a service at St. Paul's. The tradition of it all--the words, the music, the apparel--just seemed so much more grand in such a setting.

Thing: This Book
Someone who thinks my life is lacking in faith and is not afraid to tell me so, bought me a copy of this book when it first came out. I've never read it. Not one single page. But, out of respect for someone else's beliefs I let it just sit on my book shelf. Maybe some day.

As always:
One entry for a blog comment.
Two entries for posting a picture of your own.
