Dating Advice? Marriage ADvice?

When you were (are) dating or getting married - did you ever get any hilarious advice? Or truly horrifying advice? I know I did. My grandma once told me, "Angie - you don't want to BE a lawyer, you want to MARRY one" (in hindsight, maybe she was right). That same grandma said, "Why don't you date that nice [insert name of highschool classmate] his grandma and I have been friends for 50 years (and his family has money)".

Great advice, grams.

When I told people I was getting married, I also had some gems. My dad, (gotta love him ) gave Mike and I a lecture on why marriage was very serious (he was also right, but it kinda killed the mood on the day we got engaged).

That brings me to today's quote:
To catch a husband is an art; to hold him is a job. -- Simone de Beauvoir.

So what advice did you get? What advice do you give?

My mom told me that husbands come and go, but she and i are forever. Kind of sweet in a Mommie Dearest way.

When the guy I dated for 6 years broke up with me my Nana told me, "There are plenty of fish in the sea." I love my Nana so much, but I've got nothing - no advice, no husband, no boyfriend. Anyone have a cute, normal 30-ish male friend, brother, relative???

Before we got engaged, but had been a long time seeing each other - my grandfather asked me why we didn't just live together? What was holding us up? Probably the fact that your son (my father) would not approve!! My mother's advice to each of us was not to think that someone will change just because you want them to....but on the other hand, she believes that with men it is all about training them in, as early as possible! I have to say, I agree completely!

Oh yeah, my advice - just go for it. I have too many friends who are waiting around for the perfect time to get married or have kids....life is too short. If you have found the perfect someone, jump straight in and go for it. (Easy to say for my with perfect husband and 1.75 children...but I have no regrets)
