Everyone's A Cynic

"A cynic is not merely one who reads bitter lessons from the past; he is one who is prematurely disappointed in the future." Journalist Sydney J. Harris
I am a huge fan of The Daily Show and watch it with my eyes half-open every night (I am the mother of a three year-old, I'm up early!), but some nights I see the disappointment seep through the parody and it makes a cynic out of me. I know I can get some thoughts from this crowd about how to stay positive about the political process. Come on ladies, show me what you've got!

Hmmm. Remember that it is a process. It is not suppose to work quickly - that helps eliminate rash decision making.

I was feeling pretty blue about this a few weeks back. I did a search for that photo of the elderly iraqi woman with the purple finger after voting.

Freedom and the ability to have a voice. Keeps me inspired.

I know my job is not the same as politics, but it is all about winning people over and trying to make change for the common good.

The biggest lesson I'm still learning is that meaningful change takes time! This is an impossible lesson for an impatient person.

Oh, Barb - you're in education. It IS politics (at least that's what it feels like sometimes).

When I think of other countries that do not have the same freedoms I am inspired. But when I hear the report that our leader has vetoed a health care bill that would provide insurance for MORE children it makes me want to scream. Politics is not good for impatient people.
