Trendy Tuesday 5/8/07

Good Morning! How y'all doing? I have recently found some new tunes to put on my ipod. Mike and I were also watching the Saturday Night Live recap of the 90's. For the first time in our 10 year relationship, he told me he HATES Pearl Jam (whom I love), the Smashing Pumpkins and all 90's grunge music.

I am devastated. Those songs make me think of high school. Memories of sneaking into parties in the woods, jamming out when I was driving alone, boyfriends that I used to have.

That is the inspiration for today's Trendy Tuesday. Tell me all about your "throwback songs". Make a throwback soundtrack. Here is mine:

1. Roller Coaster of Love (Red Hot Chilli Peppers). This song always makes me think of my freshman year of college. Angie and Julie and myself dancing on tables at house parties.

2. Black (Pearl Jam). Big Sigh. Love this song - makes me think of my senior year of high school. Lots of angst. I dyed my very long hair a shade of blue black. My mother almost killed me and I had to get it redyed back to my natural hair color. Not, however, before the Winter Carnival. My hair was freakish black and I loved it!

3. Fishin in the Dark (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band). I grew up in a rural area of Northern Wisconsin. Gotta love the dirt band.

4. Take a Chance on Me (ABBA). I know this one doesn't seem to fit with the others, but it always makes me think of my college roomate Steve and our nights on the town.

5. Two Steps Behind (Def Lepard). This one is one of Mikes faves and has worked its way into mine too.

What are yours?

Oh what a good Trendy Tuesday! Here are mine:

1. Anything by the Doors: makes me remember the summer I was 17, and wished that Brian was more than just a friend.

2. When a Man Loves a Woman (Percy Sledge): reminds me of ex hubby and first love.

3. Anything Elvis: reminds me of my dad and growing up.

Ok, all that comes to mind at the moment. What fun!

Oh, I totally DIG throwback songs. In fact, I have a yearbook entry written by one of my best friends that is ALL song titles. It rocks.

Here's some of my faves....

1. Violent Femmes - Blister in the Sun (just to irritate my parents)

2. Pour Some Sugar on Me (Def Leppard?) - while cruising Blackstone

3. Lady in Red (no idea who it's by) - first formal-ish dance that I went to with a boy that I really liked. guess what color my dress was?

4. anything original INXS - makes me wanna say JD who?

5. I Think We're Alone Now (Tiffany) - didn't want to admit it then, don't want to admit it now!

Oh, boy -- I am not so good with this stuff -- I don't know artists & song titles, I just "know" them when I hear them. Stuff by U2, Tears for Fears, Wham ... all of that will cause me to flashback! :) Here's a page I did about the differences between my music & my dh's:

Ooo...I made a scrapbook about this. I'll hit a few highlights -
1. Bee Gee's, Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond - my mom cleaning the house on Saturday mornings
2. Bruce Springsteen - any song - my dad - air drumming in his car - cooking on Sundays and listening to Bruce
3. I Want a New Drug - Huey Lewis & the News - my mom didn't want my brother to have this song because she thought it was really about drugs
4. most of the songs from Snoop Dogg's first CD - keg parties at Brinser freshman year
5. One Headlight- Wallflowers and If You Could Only See - Tonic. senior year in college playing Beer Pong at our off campus house - the mold pit
6. D'yer M'ker- Zepplin - driving to high school with my brother in my Chevette
7. Love Vigilantes - New Order - first love - Matt R. - mix tapes

I'll try to post more on my blog.
