Mail Call!

Ever look--I mean really look--at what you get in the mail?

Mine is kind of depressing:
  • bills
  • catalogue with beautiful things I can't afford
  • junk mail (lots and lots of junk mail)
Rarely do I ever get something unexpected that is actually fun and exciting. Usually the unexpected is just a notice about some bill I forgot to pay. Here's a little more about my mail, if you're really curious.

My challenge to you this week is two-fold.
1. Watch the things you get in the mail. Tell us about the most unique and interesting.
2. Brighten up someone else's mail call with some fun and exciting, unexpected mail.

And since this all about FUN mail, it would only be fitting if it ended in a RAK. Drop us an email or leave a comment!

I get a ton of credit card applications in the mail and from time to time I get a hand made card. Those really make my day so I need to send a card to someone today, just because.

I so enjoy your blog. I check it most days.

I love the mail...even when it is only junk. When I was very little my dad was our mailman. I LOVED it when I got to see him driving up and putting the mail in our box. Somehow I guess those memories translated into MAIL=SMILE. Anyway, that is my mail story :).

I can't TELL you how excited I am about this. I was JUST agonizing over piles this morning! I work from home full time, so I also get piles and piles of reports sent in from clients.. I must kill forests, monthly I sorted through a pile.. yes I measured.. 18 inches high!!! MAIL.. reports, client files... PHEW, invigorating! Bring on the challenges!

Usually my mail is similarly boring - but this week I got a huge Italian cookbook which was a prize for a competition I had no memory of entering. Now THAT was a nice surprise!!
BTW - I have been loving your blog - some great quotes :)

My mail is usually just junk and bills. But every once in a while I do get a surprise. Last week it was a letter from my older brother that I haven't heard from in almost 5 years, this week the new Tim McGraw cd. I don't get catalogs to drool over (although I would like to sometimes).

ok, so.. this by far is the worst piece of mail ever. i was disgusted. some religious organization is mailing out the mass mailers explaining how if i haven't found God... yadda yadda yadda... i mean... are these churches numbers dwindling, they've got to stoop to such lows to mass solicit? makes me welcome those knocking on my door in person. to each his own.. yes, i've got my spirituality... but don't force yours on me! ON A GOOD NOTE: I sent off THREE, count em THREE handmade cards in the mail to unsuspecting friends that needed a boost of this or that. One of my friends already called me, in tears, telling me it came at just the right time and just how did i know she needed a boost! AHHH, the wonder of mail!

It's almost always credit card offers, and tons of airline related mail for my hubby---since he travels a lot and has a billion air and Holiday Inn miles (I won't complain--those miles send us on lots of free flights, and trips)

The goodies are my Cosmo, Canadian Living Mag, and various home improvement/decor catalogs....

No one in my family, except my mom, ever sends me the random "I miss you" card...

My husband and I are both Postal clerks, so we understand the mail thing. We always get a TON of credit card offers....at least 1 a day if not more. Plus my mom passed away 2 years ago and I'm still getting "old lady" catalogs for her that I'm trying to get stopped. We've definitely seen an increase in "bulk mail" (what the public calls junk mail) because companies realize it's an extremely cheep way to advertise.
As for my personal mail, I love that occasional surprise. I have a good friend that is a stmaper and loves to send a hand-made card for every occasion. What a joy that is. Dh and I are definitely magazine people, getting 10-15 subscriptions between us....and we read them all.

This is all making me think I need to subscribe to Real Simple. I think that might just be the treat my mailbox needs.

Am laughing at Cosmo as I remember my Cosmo days. I wouldn't have pegged you for a Cosmo girl, Retro-Girl.

And hooray for hand-made cards, Shelley. I completely intended to send one every day this week. That didn't go as planned.
